NOTE: access to the summer dances at the Blaine Schoolhouse has been affected by road closures on Eid Road and Lenville Road. Here is an interactive map to avoid the road closures. You can modify the starting point if you’re coming from a different direction.

May 11th and 25th -Saturdays: SLOW JAMS (Second and fourth Saturdays) from 1-3 PM. 314 East Second St. attic (up the long driveway and up the back stairs.) For any interested folk musicians. All experience levels welcome, including raw beginners. We may go over a piece more than once.

Bring music or chords if you have them and share a little of what you are working on. There will not be an audience. We just go round in a circle picking a favorite tune, and others try to join in. Perfection not even considered! Come join us.

May 12th: Sunday: Caller's Workshop - If you've ever had the urge to call a contra dance, this is your opportunity to learn the technique. We'll be getting together with some experienced callers to work on some new dances and practice some old ones, and would be delighted to get you started. No experience necessary. We have cue cards for some simple dances. We'll hope for enough participants to make a very short contra line. Anyone who  would like to come and help dance is also welcome. Sunday May 12th from 7 to 9 pm. In the Attic studio, at 314 East 2nd St. (Up the long driveway to the back, and up the outside stairs to the attic.) This is the 2nd house up from the Public Library on 2nd St. The city parking lot on the corner of 2nd and Jefferson is open on weekends. See you there!

May 18th: Saturday: CONTRA DANCE with music by Loose Palouse and calling by Joseph Erhard-Hudson, at the Old Blaine Schoolhouse (Corner of Eid and Blaine Roads). Potluck dinner 6:30, dancing at 7:30 PM.

Wow! Our first dance of the season at the old Blaine Schoolhouse to the music of Loose Palouse and the calling of Joseph Erhard-Hudson. Now that's a wonderful way to start off the summer dancing season and celebrate volcano day. So come on out and share in some lively dancing. Our band features the expert hammered dulcimer playing of Lawrence Huntley, Rita McAdoo's lively fiddle, the guitar and bouzouki playing of David Christian and Daniel Green holding down the low end on bass. Joseph Erhard-Hudson will bring his box of magic dances. He's one of our favorite callers. What fun! We'll see you there!

Note that road construction may affect your access depending on which way you're coming from. See above for more about that, and a link to a map.

In keeping with the times, masks and vaccines are optional. At this time few are wearing masks on our dance floor, and we love to see you if you are healthy, mask or no mask. If you are sick, or have been recently, or have potentially vulnerable folks at home, we would urge you to avoid coming to the dance. As we trust you know, it is quite possible Covid can be at any close public event such as this one.

You can find a map to the schoolhouse at our website, palousefolk.org, or in one of our newsletters in the bin on the Moscow Coop bulletin board. NOTE: that the state and local transportation departments have made getting to the schoolhouse a little trickier this summer. Both Eid Road and a portion of Lenville Road will be closed for the foreseeable future. If you're coming from the North, follow the detour signs a little further towards Troy until you come to Mill Road, just this side of the elks golf course, turn right and follow Mill Road till it meets Lenville Road; follow Lenville past the trailer park, take the right fork onto Blaine Road and stay on Blaine up and over paradise ridge all the way to the schoolhouse. The road turns to gravel at the top of the ridge. Coming from the South, you can turn off the highway and go through Genesee, take Old Highway 95 north about 6 miles, the name changes to Genesee-Troy Road, shortly after that, Blaine Road will fork off to the left about a mile and a half south of the schoolhouse. Alternatively, you can stay on Highway 95 to Martinson Road, which is between mile markers 336 and just before 337, turn right on Martinson Road, follow this till it dead-ends into Blaine Road just south of the schoolhouse. Interactive map here.
